J.E. Hibbs Electric, Inc. is a family-owned electrical contracting company based in Newport, NC. Founded in 1996 by Jim Hibbs, a Carteret County native, the company holds an Unlimited Electrical Contracting License and has grown into one of Eastern NC’s most trusted names.

From residential service calls to large-scale commercial and industrial projects, we bring the same standard of professionalism to every job. We serve Carteret, Onslow, Craven, Pamlico, and Jones counties, and we’re now licensed in South Carolina as well.



From One Licensed Contractor to a Full-Service Operation

Jim Hibbs started this company at 26, making him one of the youngest licensed electrical contractors running a full-time business in the country at the time. Over three decades later, the company he built from the ground up still carries his name, his standards, and his commitment to getting the job done right the first time.



Hibbs Electric holds an Unlimited Electrical Contracting License, which means no project is too large, too complex, or out of reach. From a single-family home to a multi-million dollar public construction project, our licensing covers it all. We’re also fully bonded, carry general liability insurance, and maintain workers’ compensation coverage, so every job is protected from start to finish.



Jim’s father Louis has been part of the operation since 1998, handling scheduling and helping carry forward the family approach to customer service that’s defined the company from day one.
